That’s magic right there. Sunrise on Day 8.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATED THE PHYSICAL CHALLENGE. BUT DEFINITELY UNDERESTIMATED THE SIMPLE NEED OF A DECENT NIGHT’S SLEEP
It’s guaranteed Willy trained his arts off for this thing.
It’s been a personal goal since before COVID.
3am starts instead of sleep ins on days off.
Crazy mountain climbs and big KM days across the Gold Coast hinterland.
Hot days are a given here in QLD so even the heat, as bad as it has been, has been OK.
But sleep. That’s been a killer by the sounds.
Missing out on accommodation for the first two nights and then leaving his mattress by mistake back at Caiguna with the cockroaches didn’t help.
This Indian Pacific Wheel Ride – The race that isn’t a race…that everyone races. Keh?
The Dot watcher FB page is awesome, amazing, hilarious and nuts all at once.
It’s easy to get carried away with placings and forget why these amazing riders are doing what they’re doing in the first place.
When you love pushing yourself to extreme limits like Willy does, you’re gonna go hard.
And you’re gonna go into full race mode.
But this is 5471km looooong!
Without recharging properly day in and out you’re gonna start asking for your blankie.
The enjoyment of the challenge you were so looking forward to starts to slowly drain away.
From his FB post early this morning…
The things you see. Sunrise amazing this morning. just stopped for a bit. going to take it easy today. Knees are starting to feel every km and if I am not careful they’ll be screwed soon. . so f*cking hard yesterday. hills and wind and hot and cold. and then death adder under my peddles. haha. crazy. Just spoke with Danny and hope to catch up in Ceduna or might keep going if feeling good. can’t work out why I didn’t just sleep in. I came into this wanting to push myself hard but my brain is fried. no sleep. Then shit sleep. f*cking wind. mate. those blokes who had done this in 19 days. WTF. Otters your amazing. I am given it everything. nuts. anyway. Gotta start pedalling before I cry again. haha. thanks for all the comments its really keeping me going. that sos button on the tracker has looked good sometimes.
So Willy just be good to yourself. Rest and enjoy the rest of this amazing journey you’re on.
QUOTE OF THE DAY – “CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HOUSES”
Not much in the way of contact today other than a call on the side of the road saying he was having a rest and these piccies.
Funny quote out of the blue while chatting quickly was “Can’t wait to see houses”.
Hilarious.
Love the caterpillar chain. How amazing is that.
Stay safe Willy Maykit.
We all love ya!
