Ok, so I’ve run out of tissues.
Every rider who attempts this IPWR has their own answers for ‘why’.
A ‘pleasant’ tour of the countryside. A race against others or themselves.
Before departing on this mad, crazy adventure, we joked if he came back after this thing as a very “Dalai Lama I found myself” spiritual guru, words would be had.
Can’t be having any of that.
I mean…FFS, it’s “just” a bike ride.
There’s more important sh*t going on in the world…
For Todd, it has been about the personal challenge – a personal race against himself, his physical and mental strengths, weaknesses and how far he could push the limit.
Being authentic, raw and real with his emotions no matter how ‘manly’ and ‘stoic’ one is expected to remain through the pain.
That display of authenticity takes incredible strength.
Quiet and shy by nature, and sometimes misunderstood in the world because of this, one thing that surprised and crept upon him was the cruel ache of loneliness.
At night and early morning pushing through in the dark, particularly.
The vulnerability of being in the middle of pretty much f*cking nowhere – with no one.
He thought these moments to be when he would excel.
Enjoying his ‘alone’ time.
I think it’s been so much more than he ever anticipated.
Only 850km to go.
Still, quite a way to peddle.
Still in pain.
Sydney weather not looking that great either. Gulp.
But I know now – he’s gonna make it.
Life-changing indeed.
Only just read this blog, blurb, post or whatever it’s called.. and absolutely loved it!! Especially the ‘Dalai Llama’ comment. Thanks Team Willy!!
