Did you know the flies in WA are well-educated?
Ok so I’ll start with the flies.
And travel backwards to document the week of Willy.
Presently in Derby.
Where it all begins.
His arrival a few days ago had Willy instantly experiencing the only known luxury in town – Spinifex Lodge.
The welcoming committee included a donger full of flies.
If you thought “Willy’s Donger” meant something else, you are VERY rude.
The flies. Bloody “smart”, they were.
“Jeez, I tried to swat them but the little f*ckers had me sussed and hid so I couldn’t catch them”.
Right.
There I was thinking they were blow fly big in them there parts. But apparently they are tiny and can fit within the cracks of your put-together swatting fingers.
Escaping is no problem.
Super-smart, stealth-like flies. Willy’s description. Not mine.
$15.95 was required to alleviate Willy’s stress.
Yep.
A can of Mortein costs that much in Derby, WA. Sheesh.
Swatting flies, and packing (boring, but necessary stress of a mess!) has kept him busy.
Prior, and more fly-free and lovelier was his catch-up in Broome with Kane, Jules and little fam and in Perth with the amazing Binky and the talented Mi-Chelle.
Thank you both for your generosity/hospitality.
Three flights just to get to Derby from the GC were made sweeter with stop-over visits to enjoy the company of amazing, authentic people who understand the passion to peddle.
So. Tommorow.
Or today if you’re reading this Saturday 6th July, 2024.
Guessing Willy will be well and truly into the ride by then.
The little pink dot will be making its soul-finding journey down, down, down to Uluru.
Having the guts to even be at the start line is an achievement in itself.
Good luck to all the awesome riders.
Let this crazy dot-watching begin.
P.S. Forgot about the thorns. Pushing his bike into the donger he went over ‘lawn’ that was filled with thorns – thongs and tyres spiked like an echidna by the time he got to his donger. Ouch. A painstaking exercise to pull them all out. Tyre goo and more. Alas, it wouldn’t be a challenge, if it weren’t indeed a challenge. Go Willy!
Go Willy. Stay calm. Ride strong!
Looking strong Todd…
I’ll be glued to watching your dot… You’re a legend, always!!!
