Caiguna to Cocklebiddy - Day 5 - IPWR IndyPac 2022 - Willy Maykit and Subsonic Rest Stop

FREE SCOTCH FINGER BISCUITS – GOLD ON A PLATE. AND HOW GOOD IS IT TO SEE THOSE SMILES!

Firstly, Willy if you can hear me do you know what day the bins go out?

The binfluencers in the street are not giving me any clues.

Canines, Sweet Virginia and Ace,  also want to know when you’re returning.

They aren’t happy their normal 9 course degustation dinners, delicately mixed and microwaved to be just so, have come to an abrupt end.

Two days rolled into one…

OK so another eventful daynight in the adventures of Willy Maykit.

Excited to see a photo with a big Willy grin  –  Todd and Danny at Cocklebiddy.

(I will not repeat what sister Betty Makesit called that place. Not for young ears.)

There was extreme MOS (missing out syndrome) after seeing a missed “hello” text at 9.53pm last night.

Nooooo – need details!

Piecing together the texts, Strava and posts and piccies during the night, as per DAY FOUR blog post, it’s confirmed he made it to Caiguna.

Unbelievable. 371km in the one go.

“Day4. 371km. 3 punctures and wrecked back tyre. ran over piece of metal. slow going. had few nana naps along the way. when you start to see faces in your front light shadows on the road ahead of you you know its time to pull over. In Caiguna at around 3.30am. Starving but roadhouse not open until 6. ?. the free scotch fingers – gold on a plate. Up now. Time to eat and work out next stretch. Hope to see Danny Pavan soon. looks like he’s had some bad luck too. brutal. Otters you’re incredible. Hope all riders are doing well out there. Might see you if I’m still here. Will try not to eat all the food on you. Starving. Time to eat big. Willy.”

A wayyyy too brief chat around 8.30am QLD reveals a plan for Danny (Subsonic) and him to try their best to make it to Madura and then rest for as much as they need overnight in lieu of powering on to Border Village.

The hope is we wake to see them still sleeping/resting.

Surely.

Sleep deprivation must be taking a toll by now.

You’ll note in Todd’s quote above he had three flats and a wrecked tyre.

Thankfully he has spare tubes and luckily had a spare tyre – a last minute decision to take one from memory due to advice from Mario – owe you Mario!

One interesting outcome from these long rides is the numbness in your hands. He struggled changing the tyres in the middle of the night because of this. Both Danny and he experienced the same sensation in their right hands due to the need to change the gears and being in the saddle for so long.

It was a shame to hear Danny (Subsonic) came a cropper off his bike and ate a little gravel.

A bit of bark off but OK thankfully and no damage to the bike.

This IPWR is brutal. Willy has done some massive training but I don’t think anything could have prepared him for this.

Loved receiving the photos of the night road.

Imagine the eeriness though. Is there anybody out there?

OK deadline to get these updates done is 7:00pm and it’s that time now. If there’s any updates during the night I’ll do my best to add them here as soon as I can in the morning.

Right now it looks like they’re about 20km out just before sunset – guessing at the pace it’s just another hour and they’ll be enjoying a shower and beer.

Praying this will mean a “normal” night enjoying a dinner and a beer and a well-deserved normal sleep overnight before the big Nullabor crossing.

P.S. The man on a mission might not have time to respond to all your amazing comments and words of encouragement but I am certain they’ll raise that signature Toddy smile on his face when he gets around to reading them. Hopefully tonight when he’s tucked up in bed with a Madura tea and Turkish delight!

Cracked the 1500km, refresh, refuel, the Nullarbor awaits. Good effort Toddy, we’re all pushing u on keep that mental toughness up. How’s ‘Pricilla’ the prettiest bike in the desert going? She still looks great in the pics.
