No Telstra coverage is doing my head in but that’s what Willy signed up for.
On his own out there.
If only it was on his own from Tewgs to Tally Valley.
Still connection if you need it.
Of course, a little reconnaissance, but nothing will ever prepare you for the things you see that you’ve never seen before.
Billiluna in the middle of the night.
“Always missing the shop closing times Hard Luck Lester” describes it as a heart-beating on high experience where he rode in quietly with this little mini-town asleep.
Shhhhh.
Don’t wake the neighbours.
But alas, the dogs went nuts.
After finding/grabbing water he thought it best to depart.
In a hurry.
As he cycled out on a road of sinking sand as deep as the desert he was followed by locals in a car.
Fair enough. They were working out this strangers intentions at midnight.
Protecting territory. But gulp.
Didn’t feel good.
Maybe Wolfe Creek would have been a better option. Eeeeee.
He made sure to explain his reasons for visiting and promptly camped up the road a bit.
No way he could go too far. Tomorrow, he needed supplies before the 590km ‘no supplies’ stretch.
And the shop was not opening for anyone before 9am.
Good though. He slept.
His little bivvy a little godsend.
Finally communication at 4am his time.
Hello.
You awake.
Well. I am now Willy.
Still in his bivvy he explains his plans and they sound alright but eeeee – this stretch.
He’s done a lot of scroll in/scroll out Google Maps research and I hope he’s marked all the water holes in the process.
Wing it?
Yeah, nah.
That’s not going to cut it.
Willy can you hear me?!
Keep your wits and your water bottles topped up to the hilt.
This aint no game.
Nothing to gain if you don’t survive it.
Ohhhh how very dramatic. But true.
In the morning, he returned to town to grab some supplies.
The dogs were back. He’s a nutso dog lover but this bunch was not as friendly as he’s used to.
He must have put some dog food on his bike tyres because they were mad bent on eating them.
Not a relaxing stop by any means.
Keep pedalling.
Piccies below. Love the cone of silence.
I’m stressed, exhausted, overwhelmed, dehydrated just reading this! Willy is proving once again, he is tough as nails.. maybe tougher!
Amaaaaaazing determination, as always!!!
