FIRST UP. BIG THANKS TO LINDA FOR QUICK REST STOP INTO BEACHPORT EARLY THIS MORNING. AMAZING HOSPITALITY! THE EARLY START AND YESTERDAY’S HEADWINDS MEANT A NEED TO REST UNUSUALLY EARLY TODAY. AFTER AN HOUR OF GREAT HOSPITALITY IT WAS UPWARDS AND ONWARDS TO MT GAMBIER…
HAPPY AS A MCMAYKIT MEAL AT MOUNT GAMBIER MACCAS UNTIL….
F*ing headwinds again.
35km an hour. Pretty much all the way to Mt Gambier.
So imagine the thirst on arrival at Maccas at Mount Gambier today.
Hungry.
Thirsty.
Just gimme.
Before we secretly divulge one of Mr Maykit’s anomalies – or it may be more accurate to call it a ‘condition’, it is important to note he is somewhat of an environmentalist.
He even had a stint as an “Eco” Painter years back.
Takes the recycling bin out like clockwork.
Rides a bike to work most days.
But when it comes to eco-friendly paper straws?
You know the ones that stay hardy and solid for..oh…about 2 sips?
Nup.
Willy can’t be doing ’em.
It gives him what the Heness clan call, I think, the “regurgos”?
Sister, Betty Makesit may well correct me here.
It’s the “fingernails slowly scratching down the chalkboard” sensation.
Our choice of cafe is dictated by the question “do you think they’ll have paper straws”?
For him, it’s the stuff of nightmares.
Sharing insider IPWR participant texting goss at 2.33pm today…documented evidence of said condition below….
CELEBRITY HEADS – WILLY & BRAD
Def ‘up himself’ by now.
Everywhere he goes there’s a dot watcher wanting to take a piccy.
Here he is below, wild and wooly with Brad.
A quick chat in Mt Gambier reveals that Brad is a top bloke.
Thanks for keeping him sane Brad!
And seriously, dot watchers in general – you’re all legends.
Keeping an eye out for these IPWR riders.
This ride – it’s a ‘crazy to most’ choice they make.
But the choice is made based on the knowledge there’ll be a bunch of free-willing dot watching angels out and about while they tackle the traverse of this massive nation.
Thank you.
Did you know – Todd backwards is…dott.
How ironic.
SHOW US YA EYES, WILLY.
VICTORIA! VICTORIOUS!
Probs while in a bit of a state.
But he made another state today.
Proudnessness pouring out.
And oh…See the arrows and the green?
That equals 35km headwinds right back at ya.
I don’t think I could even walk against those sort of winds.
MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE RANCH…
Burst water pipes. No joke!
(Thanks to best neighbours EVA – Paddy and Mandy for saving my wet arts).
Showers with a sprinkling of silt..due to burst water pipes.
Canines ruling the world…and the couch.
It’s a can’t copeness I just can’t cope with.
Keep pedalling Willy Maykit.
We love your challenge, but we want you HOME ASAP.
Portland bound tonight.
And I’d love to stick around to see you grab that milestone.
But there’s secret wine business to be had.
A massive thanks to the dot watcher hosts hosting you tonight. How bloody awesome are they!
I look forward to your stories and photos when time permits.
Helllllllooooo,
Glad to see you didn’t detour to far in the ???
Country and made it to Melbourne. Woooo Hooooo

Head down bum up again, but don’t forget to look at the amazing scenery that awaits this part if the journey. Take time in your long days of riding to remember the traditional owners of these lands and the sanctity of these places we walk/ride across. May the head winds be kind to u today brother and greet u from behind. I can’t believe you have your own personal blogger! I believe she is called the ‘Moderator’ very classy, very professional! ? Can’t wait to catch up with her. Love your work.
