Halfway Mark Just Before Adelaide – Early Morning Day 12

Day 12 - Early Morning into Adelaide - Halfway Mark

WILL I GET IN TROUBLE IF I SAY HE TAKES AFTER NANA TEK IN THE LEGS DEPARTMENT?

Well he made it past the half-way mark and to Adelaide.

Proud!

And to think…

Between you, me and the internet, about 7-8 days back, when delirium, despair and disappointment flooded his bones, he almost bailed on this epic IPWR ride.

Still a long way to go – but every KM pedalled is a KM closer.

Lots can happen from here.

There’s hills as high as heaven to conquer, cold weather, possible tricky navigation due to route changes and still the body stresses that won’t reside until this brutal ride is over.

The communication is sporadic and quick and most times I have NFI what he means.

Regardless, I’ll make it up as I go to bring you a quick “piece together” of Willy Maykit’s frolick into Adelaide, Adelaide Hills and beyond on Day 12.

THE HOT CROSS BUN TO BEAT THEM ALL, THANKS KAY!

Thank you to Dot Watcher Kay for the free hot cross bun at Gorges Road

EASTER BUNNY MEETS SANTA – NO TIME TO SHAVE BUT BET THIS MAMIL IS STILL MAKING TIME TO SHAVE HIS LEGS. OHHH!

We have no photo of the lovely Kay.

Just Willy looking like santa gorging on a hot cross bun early this morning.

Jeez…must be so ‘up himself’ by now – own IPWR journal, getting fed by screaming fans on the side of the road…I mean, really.

Kay apparently is a dot watcher angel every year at the same spot on Gorges road.

Thank you so much Kay. You were a highlight for Willy today.

That banana fueled the rest of his ride into the big smoke.

So…the first exciting stop in this civilised city of Adelaide?

Cool vibe coffee house?

Wine bar serving a slightly chilled Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir?

Nope. The chemist.

It was an extreme necessity to find treatment for a burnt bottom lip and a very angry, hot and cross bum.

The saddle sores have been kept at bay so far with tea tree oil and make up removal pads.

Yes, let it be known Willy likes to stock up on all travel pack essentials – including makeup removal items.

Tomorrow he’s going to trial “sports underfoot silicon blister plasters”.

I think he may have been in the wrong section at the chemist.

HANGING WITH GREAT BLOKES AGAIN TODAY BY THE LOOKS

Mr Maykit’s never been shy of his own company.

Long training rides alone through Tally Valley, Tyalgum, Northern NSW and beyond – the peace and time to think about his world, his life, loves and losses – it’s very much his gig.

And it’s why he wanted so desperately to do this crazy, messed up, brutal WTF IPWR.

But it’s lovely to see him enjoy a bit of banter and ride with a few blokes throughout this experience.

It will be a highlight for him for sure.

I FEEL LIKE A (WHOLE) CHICKEN TONIGHT…

Far out.

Almost a whole chicken consumed for dinner.

Washed down with a Magnum.

I have a sneaking suspicion he’s just doing this for the snacks.

HOPING FOR A LONGER RIDE TOMORROW…

Sounds like Willy’s hoping for a big sleep to be ready and rested for a big day pedalling tomorrow.

Alarm set for 2.30am.

Lordy lord.

Looking at the dot watcher map it looks to be a whole stretch of ocean front.

Beautiful! I can’t wait for the piccies.

So long as the head winds stay away.

THANKS TAILEM BEND

A shout out to the accommodation at Tailem Bend.

After being ripped off in Norsemen for $130 for a s*ithole of a room, he got a massive family room at the Motel Riverbend.

He sent me a million photos of the bed.

Clearly he thought it to be some sort of local monument.

And oh…before we leave talk of Tailem Bend – it’s interesting to note that another endurance event-type thing Willy was going to do (if IPWR was not possible due to border closures) was here last week – some sort of 24 hour non-stop ride around and around and around the same 5km circuit over and over and over again.

Can’t wait for that one…fun.

Until tomorrow. A collation of pics from day 12…

I hope your butt is receiving the attention it needs (that’s not something I ever thought I’d be saying to you! lol), and keep spinning and pushing those kms behind you! You’re doing an extraordinary job!! Cheers from all of us here!
