It’s a wrap for Willy.
Oh but whyyyyyy?
After 2250km.
The decision to finish in Alice Springs wasn’t easy for Willy, but it is the right one.
He’s been in pain since the day 2 bike seat post issues – having to ride standing up to Kununurra.
Jeez. The determination and resilience.
Covering such a massive distance on a bike is no small feat.
And now there’s numb feet.
Probs numb bum. Hands.
From freezing nights to scorching days, each moment has tested his limits and showcased his strength.
He gave it a bloody good crack.
The stunning landscapes, kind strangers, and challenging terrains he encountered along the way have all added to this unforgettable experience.
Ole Willy realises now.
Endurance cycling is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
It’s beating the ride. Not the other riders.
Each pedal stroke, each mile, each moment out there on the road is a victory in itself.
While not finishing the next 500km to Uluru could feel like a ‘but what the hey….you’re ALMOST there” setback, I’m focussing on the 2250km he conquered.
And thankfully so is he.
“I can’t believe I got this far”.
That’s two million, two hundred and fifty thousand metres of pure effort, hot sweat, cold shivers and determination.
To everyone who’s been following along, thank you!
It’s always fun and Willy loves the blog messages and phone texts of support along the way.
Not one of them goes unread.
The privileged journey continues.
The highs, and the lows.
Life is for living in any way you choose to try and get through both of those things.
Without opinion and judgement from others.
How ‘stupid’?
Why do you wanna go and do that for?
How ‘stupid’ to even ask.
Is this the end for Willy’s nutso adventures?
I wish.
But I doubt it.
Maybe it’s time we crack open the tandem bike box?
Keep pedalling Willy! We all love ya!
Congratulations
so proud of you xx
