Day 16 - IPWR - Lavers Hill to Melbourne

THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE GLOSSY BROCHURE.

Well it was a massive 8km effort today.

Awesome.

Conditions a bit muddy.

Struggled with a few hills but got there in the end.

Not quite up to Willy’s KM standard.

Yeah the 8km is my doing. Bet that hit ya with a head scratcher.

I went out for a trail run with my lovely running peoples from the best run and fitness group on the Gold Coast.

So 8km vs. 200+KM in a day.

Beyond comparision.

Running (OK it was a bit of a run/walk) up one of the hills today I could not stop thinking about Willy riding up Lavers Hill last night.

In the dark. After a day of riding. Cold. Wet.

Ole Willy’s been an inspiration that is for sure.

After the 8km, I was inspired to keep moving so the lawn was chosen to be expertly pruned to an inch of its life.

Think the mower grass level thingy was down too low.

The backyard sorta looks like the Nullarbor now.

At least it’ll look very familiar to Willy on his return.

So the haps in Willy’s world today?

From Lavers Hill…to the great Great Ocean Road.

I couldn’t wait for this milestone and hoped the scenery would raise his spirits after battling headwinds for years.

But can ya believe it.

Refer to hero pic.

Lying bluddy travel brochure.

Ripped off.

But even still…Willy’s spirits remained high with the help of a few dot watcher angels along the way.

Ran into Norm at Apollo Bay.

Had a great chat.

His wife Bernadette is an avid dot watcher apparently.

I just sussed FB and I think Willy got the ‘couples’ he met today mixed up. Can’t quite piece it together but aside, how cool is this wild and woolly “I’ve almost just ridden across the farrrrrrking country” image.

Thank you Norm and Bernadette.

FEELING GOOD AND STRONG. YAY!

“The second cyclist for 2022 has made it to Apollo Bay. Great effort Todd. It’s raining (it is the magnificent Otway Ranges he’s just cycled through) so he’s wet but feeling good and strong. He’s off for a coffee and then on the road again. Go safely Todd.” Bernadette – IPWR Dot Watcher FB.

Then another couple – Frazer and Rachel – with “super awesome” cookies.

Peddling. Cookies. Dunno.

Sounds like a bit of a suss combination if you ask me.

Not to mention cookies from strangers.

The “high” country might appear quicker than he anticipated.

(Jokes aside – how generous are these dot watchers? Love it)

Then a fellow called Kim had a little spin with him for a bit.

Willy suspects he may have been just there for the cookies though.

Right now, Melbourne looks the goods tonight.

I hope he lives it up in the city and books a 6-star hotel.

How amazing. Perth. Adelaide. Melbourne.

Next stop Syd-A-Ney.

God god Mr Willy Maykit…I think you may well make it.

EDIT: PHOTO ADDITION 9.50PM – IN MELBOURNE! LOOK AT THAT WILLY GRIN!

“Todd looking good in Melbourne. Accommodation in Richmond sorted, after a few calls etc. I tried to record a video but stuffed up – sorry!” Lee Naish – IPWR Dot Watcher FB.

Don’t ever underestimate a 8k trail run with long grass and potential slithery friends! I too was thinking of the crazy cross country ride today and what a life changing adventure it is. I think the bloody legend Willy will make it and as for the superb blogger well she is a legend all on her own x
